Bethany Alvarez: Friday Evening Intro to Swing Dance Class
For me, Lindy Hop is about great music, great people, and the joy of connecting through dance. I’ve spent years teaching at the Mercury Café, thrown my fair share of aerials, and probably danced "one last song" more times than I can count. Lindy Hop has been a joyful part of my life for many years, and I love sharing that enthusiasm with others. Whether you're taking your very first lesson or looking to refine your technique, I love sharing the joy of partner dancing and helping students connect through movement, music, and community.

Lorne Fultonberg, Friday Evening Intro to Swing Dance Class
From the moment Lorne Fultonberg encountered vintage swing dances (at a high school theater convention) he knew he wanted more. And ever since, he has been trying desperately to get his fill. As life took Lorne around the country, he sought out swing wherever he could — and where he couldn’t find it, he created it! He is a proud founding member of Swingout OKC in Oklahoma City and never passes on an opportunity to introduce someone to the music and movement that changed his life, whether it’s Lindy Hop, Balboa, St. Louis Shag, or Collegiate Shag. Currently, Lorne runs Boulder Swing Dance, where he strives to create an accessible, welcoming scene that is deeply rooted in the history of this Black American art form. His classes are like his dancing: playful, comfortable and fun with an emphasis on musicality, connection, and partnership!

Elaine and Stefan- Saturday Swing Dance Crash Course
Elaine Buchignani and Stefan Huynh have spent a decade teaching and organizing, founding both the independent dance school, Jazztime Seattle, and Stormy Weather Jazz Dance Festival. They are known for their passion for vintage clips and broad expertise across the many forms of jazz dance. Most importantly, they believe jazz dance is a way to express yourself and connect with your community, so every class is also a party!

Victor Ward- Thursday Evening Swing Dance Class
To give some context, I started dancing in Broomfield, Colorado around 1975. I was 6 and my grandma taught me backbeat Iowa swing and Foxtrot swing. We went dancing every week at the tea dances of the day till I got into high school and wanted to club dance.
In the late 80s, I learned to DJ at the Pink Cadillac (Irish Rose) during my navy years in Hawaii. In 1991, I helped with the dances with Hawaii jitterbugs and was one of the early helpers of that club. Moving back to Denver in 1992, I was teaching dance to friends at the Airplane club (rockabilly) and later the blue room.

The Delta Sonics
Most voted as the "Best Blues Band in Denver" by the WestWord magazine, The Delta Sonics music takes a Chicago Blues base and seasons it with Swing, Delta, N’awlins R&B and some early Rock n' Roll. They were Westword’s best blues band in Denver the last six of nine years.
Al Chesis supplies vocals & foot stomping showmanship but it's his harmonica playing that grabs you. He has been a Hohner harmonica endorsee since 1992 and recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Blues Society. Bob Pellegrino supplies the dazzling slide guitar. Bob was the Colorado Blues Society’s best slide guitar player in three years in a row. Rising bass star Alissa Chesis and Stefan Flores on drums ‘drive the bus’ and are a grooving rhythm section.

His Spirited renditions of Jazz classics as well as original compositions in the swing style give him a unique and authentic dimension. Zakiya Hooker
Born Into The Blues
Zakiya Hooker was born in the Motor City - Detroit, Michigan - but she was also born into the blues.  You could even say she had a front-row seat to the best the genre had to offer, right in her own living room - her dad was the renowned blues giant, John Lee Hooker.  The blues has literally been with her from birth.
But rather than relying on her father, Zakiya has pursued life, and music, on her own terms, overcoming personal tragedy and skepticism along the way.  But you know what they say: “The fruit never falls too far from the tree.”
Her music paints a broad swath in the styles it covers.  A strong and versatile vocalist, the jazzy, blues sound on her debut European release, Another Generation Of The Blues, and her second international release, Flavors of the Blues, takes you in and out of songs like “Hey Lady,” “Baby You Busted,” “Receipt To Sing The Blues” and “Protect Me From The Blues.” In 1998, Zakiya was included in the Every Woman’s Blues compilation, and in 2002 she was invited to perform with Johnnie Johnson on “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” on the Clarksdale To Heaven tribute CD.  In 2003, Zakiya released a live recording in Buenos Aires, Colors Of The Blues.   In 2004 she performed “Mean Mean World” and “Rock These Blues Away” on her father’s Face To Face album.  Her CDs "Keeping It Real" (2009), In The Mood (2015), "Legacy" (2020) and "Bluesman's Journey" (2023) were released on their family label, Boogie With The Hook Records.

Ollan Bell (i.e. "Chris James")
Ollan Christopher Bell possesses an extraordinary gift: his voice. Taught from a young age by his mother, a professional singer, Ollan’s early foundations in gospel shaped his technique and passion, empowering him to master an array of musical styles. By age 10, he picked up the bass, and at 12, he performed his first
solo vocal act. Now, with over 50 years in the entertainment industry, Ollan continues to captivate audiences with his vocal precision and mastery across R&B, Soul, and Jazz.
In the 1970s, his group The Natural Four—managed by legendary Curtis Mayfield—became a five-time gold record
sensation and a defining voice from Oakland, California. Sharing stages with icons like Earth, Wind & Fire, The Temptations, and The Isley Brothers, The Natural Four became a fixture on Soul Train and Midnight Special. Ollan has since built a discography of over 200 songs, celebrated across the globe.
